BIRDS

90% of our rescued animals are birds. There are many various types of birds so it's vital to know the species so you can prepare appropriate food and housing! Many birds leave their babies to seek food or to encourage fledging. Removing a baby can be detrimental.  Click on the click to learn more!!!

CREEPIES & CRAWLIES

Wild animals do not have the luxury of flea and tick shampoos, lice powders, and worm or parasitic medicines.  Some wild animals carry deadly diseases.  It's best to call a trained professional to rescue when needed.  Click on the link to learn more about these Creepy Crawlies and how to help your animals or yourself if they come into contact with you.

REPTILES

One of our Weipa Wildlife Carers specialises in reptiles such as snakes, lizards and turtles.  Please do NOT attempt to pick up a snake or dangerous reptile.  Monitor the animal and call us for help!

Weipa Wildlife Care are on call for all Wallaroos, Wallabies and Kangaroos in need of rescue in Cape York.  If you accidentally hit a mother on the roads, please stop and check if there's a baby in the pouch or nearby and CALL US!

Flying Foxes

As mango season approaches, Weipa Wildlife Care is on call for all injured or orphaned Flying Foxes.  Flying foxes can carry lethal diseases so please call a trained carer if you come into contact with an animal in need. Click on the link for more information!

Unfortunately the majority of animals we get calls for have been injured by introduced, feral and household animals who natural instinct is to hunt and kill.  There are many native animals that are endanger of extinction due to feral and household pet attacks such as birds, small macropods and reptiles.  Click here to ensure you're a responsible pet owner and see what you can do to help save our native wildlife from these threats.
